THE BODY grows outside,—
The more convenient way,—
That if the spirit like to hide,
Its temple stands alway

Ajar, secure, inviting;
It never did betray
The soul that asked its shelter
In timid honesty.
Emily Dickinson
(1830–86).

This poem shows how the outside of a person's body does not reflect what is on the inside of them, but instead may end up hiding their true personality.

A person's body grows up on the outside,-
Its easier to see this way,-
If a person doesn't show there true personality,
The body is a good way to do so

    The body is always open;
    It never leaves yourself
The body can hide who you are
    Without a problem.

Although a person may be growing up
That's not all that can really happen
What you see on the outside
May just be a quick way to hide

      A body can hide everything
Of what a person really is
In the effort of hiding within the body
      The world loses another person

  2. The body grows outside of its skin
    The easiest way
The body hides its spirit sometimes
    Its morale stands always

    Open,safe,welcoming
    It never betrayed a person
The person that asked it for shelter
    In scared honesty

  3. When you grow up you go through many journies
The journies are what make you who you are
If you hide your true self,
You won't grow up to reach your goals

Secure your true self and invite new ideas
    Nothing will stop you
You're meant to do certain things
    Even the scariest things

  4. You see a body grow-
    Like changing hair and face
    The growth inside stands alone-
    Invisible to others knowing
    It's wholesome and real
    It finds its sacred home
    Inside your sheltered body
    Where the honest parts live.

  5. A body is just shelter
    What is inside matters most
    Looks can be decieving
    And mask what is true

    Inviting the outside in
    For the body is protection
A soul may find a home
    A place to stay

  6. When you grow up you do not look the same.
Your body undergoes changes on the outside.
Yet, who you are on the inside can stay hidden and safe.
The skin and the bones are always a shell.
Like a turtle's that gives a home to the soft parts of the body.
The body can shelter more than blood but emotion.
It will never deny giving you a place to be who you are.
Even in the scariest of days.

  7. The body grows seperately from the soul, and the soul grows away from the body. The soul needs the body.
The spirit hides in the body, and the body does not betray the soul
The body is a safehold for the soul. The soul trusts the body to keep it safe

  8. The body grows bigger or ages as you get older.
It's easier for your body to grow on the inside instead of the outside, because it's harder for you to grow up maturely.
If you are shy then you won't mature as fast.
You will stay the same and not change at all.

The body is like your home.
Your body and soul are always there for you.
The soul needs the body and the body needs the soul
But your soul isn't as "strong" as your body so it's more timid.

  9. The body grows for people to see
    This is an easy thing
The spirit you have stays hidden
It never goes away only grows
    The growth inside takes time
The soul does not come with the body
It has to ask and want to stay.

    The soul's growth is always
    harder than the body's growth,
and if the soul is seeking refuge,
there will always be a place for it.

    The soul's place of refuge
    is welcoming to the soul,
and it would never betray the soul
    that humbly questioned it, asking
for shelter in a time of need.

  11. Every single person
    needs a home
    to be sheltered from the outside;
against the harshness of people and nature alike.

    The house always there;
    Never allowing dangers to enter,
    Always protecting the person,
    Against the world.

  12. As you get older, your body grows both physically and mentally
Your body grows in the easiest way
If you hide who you really are
You will noit have that killer instinct to accomplish your goals

    Never doubt your beliefs
Nobody can stop you from believeing what you want to believe
You're born to do certain things in your life
Even the things that are the toughest

  13. The body grows on the outside,
In which the spirit can hide,
It provides shelter for your spirit.
What's on the outside can decieve you.

    The body never abandoned
The soul that was inside it,
    It is open and inviting.
    The soul can be secure.

  14. You grow through many obstacles
But your sole does not change
A sole found a home for a reason
    And you body protects it
Who you are on the outside
Does not change what you are on the inside

  15. You see your body grow in many ways,
some of which you can't change
You are the person you are supposed to be
Don't hide who you truly are
    Your body is your home
    keeping you safe.
It will never turn against you,
Even in the scariest of days.

  16. The human body is the home to the soul
The body grows, but the soul stays the same.
The body is just an open home,
Waiting with open arms to keep the soul safe.
    The soul can hide
    Or be open
But the body will keep its opening arms whenever the soul needs it to.

  17. Someone may seem to be growing up
By what you see on the outside.
What's on the outside can hide
    Your true self.
A body can hide a person,
    And who they really are.

  18. Each and every bird
    hides behind a tree,
    taking shelter from the world
    and avoiding injuries.

The tree should always be there
    to protect the needy being,
who hides under the tree’s cover
that takes on the world for it.

But what to do when that tree’s gone,
    the bird may not know.
But then it’s time for the bird to leave,
    and find shelter somewhere else.

Maybe someday birds will be less timid
and come out from those trees.
    Change a little bit
and take on their own world.

  19. the body is only a form of protection,
    for the personality that's inside,
    the body is a shelter,
but only covers what is shy

welcoming, safe, and an open invitation.
it never has done no wrong.
    a personality needs a shelter,
    to protect from other personalities.
