Read the quote below:
“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”
― Sylvia Plath, The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath
Interpret this quote. What does it mean?
Apply it to your own experiences as a writer. When you are asked to write about yourself, does it relate to the way you feel?
Go the extra step: What is the most difficult thing about evaluating another student's writing?

Jayce Beaudette- This quote could mean many things. it could mean people sometime people dont like the truth and doesnt like to hurt others.i think that the truth hurts and sometimes people need to be to the truth to help them. it takes guts to be so outgoing to tell the truth. thats my thought.

ReplyDeleteeverything in life is 100 percent writable some people don't like to write everything down because you don't want people to know things about you because if its secretive and someone finds it they can read it. And if you don't write it down no body can get to it unless you say. some people really like writing but im not one of them.

DeleteGreat Job !!! Good Detail !!! Your really good at this stuff !!!
This quote means that you can write about anything at all. You just have to have the attitude and courage to be able to write about anything in life. You cannot have doubt, and you need to have an imagination. When writing about yourself, you need to write in the place of your feelings and have the creativity to interest the reader. When evaluating another student's writing you need to be able to put yourself in their place. You have to understand their way of feeling the topic they are touching upon.
ReplyDeleteJacob Ribeiro - You can write about anything you want that you put your mind to. When I write about myself I put how I feel into my writing. The most difficult thing about evaluating another students work is that you don't know what's doing on in that persons head...
ReplyDeleteFelicity Kinsella- This quote could mean that anything can be written if your not scared to write the truth. Yes, the truth will hurt and sometimes you have to deal with it. The most outgoing people will find it easier to tell the truth. When correcting others papers its hard to evaluate and maybe tell them if their writing is horrible but it helps others to know the truth so they can learn from their mistakes.

ReplyDeleteYou need creativity to write anything. If you think something is impossible to write never say it's not possible when it is if you have creativity.
One time as a writer I had to write about something I thought would be impossible but I thought about it and was creative and made it possible.
The most difficult thing about evaluating another students writing is trying not be be to critical because you don't know if they will take it the wrong way or not.
great response good detail
DeleteThis quote means that anything can be written about if you put thought into it. Some people don't express their stories, opinions, and ideas out loud or on paper because they doubt themselves. this quote is explaining how when you doubt yourself you end up missing out. When the author says "everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it." she is saying to not care what others think and who will criticize you, because if you think its worthy enough to be written and read then write it.
ReplyDeleteThis means that you can do anything in life as long as you have yourself backing you up. Meaning, you can do anything you want, nothing is impossible and the only person that can tell you that you cannot do it is yourself and the only person that is doubting you is yourself. When you write about yourself you have the way to control your story, you have the way to tell what happens next and you have the way. Your life is your story and you are in control.

ReplyDeleteEverything in life can be written about with creativity.
No because when i write about myself it is easy i don't have self doubt.
Sometimes it is hard to understand what they mean.

ReplyDeletei believe this quote means that if you don't have enough confidence in yourself than you won't do as well as you would've if you just believed that you could. This quote means that you shouldn't hold back what you want to say if you have the ability to say it.
When i am asked to write about myself i don't really say all that i mean to say, because i cant explain it, but maybe if i tried harder and dug a little deeper i could have more confidence in what i write about myself.
The most difficult part about evaluating someone else's writing would be finding the true meaning in what they wrote because it isn't your own writing.

ReplyDeleteEverything has a story behind it that can be written about the reason some things haven't been written about is because people don't have the guts to write about it. Writing is about the imagination of the writer and how far they will go to tell a story. People who doubt themselves hold back what they really have the ability to do.When I'm Asked to write about myself the way i write does apply to how i feel, writing is based on the feelings and opinions of the author. The most difficult part about evaluating other peoples writing is trying to fix their mistakes, if they wanted to have their writing a certain way correcting it because it might not sound right to you but it may be the way the writer wanted it to sound.
This quote is saying that you can put anything out there as long as you don't care what they think. You can be as creative a you want as long as you don't care how or if people judge it. This quote is saying to just be your self.
ReplyDeleteDante Terrizzi This quote means that only a person can put a limit on the work that they do. Yes this relates to me because I always feel self-doubt when I am writing. The most difficult things sometimes is giving criticism becaus eit could make the person feel like they are a horrible writer.
ReplyDeleteAnybody can write about anything as long as they put their mind to it. If they don't think they can do it their mind won't let them do it. Always think you can, never think you can't until you have tried. When I first start writing I never think that I can finish or even start it. Then I start thinking to myself "I can do this!" and my creative flow starts working. The hardest part about evaluating someone else's work is that you don't know their creative process. When evaluating someone else's work, always try to think like them. Or even ask them what they were writing about or what they meant. Always remember, always think you can, never think you can't until you have tried.
ReplyDeleteMichael Brassard – To me this quote means simply, to write something good, you must have confidence. There has been many times where I had to write something for class and I had a hard time writing it mainly because of a lack of self-confidence. Having felt this, I hate correcting other student pieces because they probably had the same self-doubt if they’re work isn’t of great quality, which would only then make them feel less confident about there writing.
