Add a splash of figurative language.
Identify three examples of figurative language that you have used (or will use) in your story: at least one must be a metaphor; at least one must be a simile. (Please write the complete sentence in which they appear.)
Hundreds of thoughts buzzed through Zoey's head like a hive of angry bees. As the prison bell rang at exactly 1:49, she grabbed her back pack and raced along the other students for the door. You couldn't tell the difference between a junk yard and Zoey's room.
Shannon Camara I had been working on my boss's presentation for about four hours straight before I finally decided to stop to eat because my stomach was killing me. -personification Watching the city might as well be like watching a bunch of diamonds surround you; it was so beautiful. -Simile Although the pay is pretty good, it is still peanuts when compared to the cost of sufficiently furninshing my apartment. -Metaphor
In my writing piece one figurative language example I used is a metaphor. “I could barely sleep last night I was so anxious and energetic to find out if I won this lottery I could have run a marathon.” Another figurative example is a hyperbole in my writing. ”2 p.m. the time my eyes get glued to the television screen…” The last figurative example I have is a simile. “With 100 dollars in my pocket I speed over to the nearest gas station as if I am racing in my car for money…”
For my short story i wrote about Christmas. In this story the main theme is jelousy. Karen is jelous of Sophie because Sophie is tall, blonde, and rich, just like the typical most popular girl in school. The simile in my story is "All the girls were like little kids in a toy store as they waited to reveal who they had picked for Secret Santa." My metaphor is "Sophie was a pampered princess who got everything she wished for and had slaves waiting on her hand and foot." My last example of figurative language is a hyperbole, "Sophie's house was an amazing, three story, white mansion with everything you could possibly imagine inside."
Myer Hussain My first figurative language sentence is a simile. It is "He can be compared to Miss Trunchbull from Matilda." My second sentence, a metaphor, states "He was a true joker." My third sentence is personification, and it says "The next day, David shows up to the park and sits on the bench next to a statue who's eyes were watching the whole park." These are my three examples of figurative language.
These are three examples of figurative language that I used in my story. 1. Hyperbole- She took off her makeup and bracelets, revealing millions and millions of scars on her wrists and the dark circles from never getting enough sleep. 2. Simile- Her eyes no longer showed fake happiness, she was being herself; her hazel eyes were dull like an old coin. 3. Metaphor- She had even left her concealer; the blanket that she had hid behind during the storm which was her life.
Simile:My stomach felt like a ton of bricks on a feather Metaphor:I could not digest the news when I heard it Personification: The awkward black chair -maya
The three examples that will be used in my story are a simile, a metaphor, and a hyperbole. The examples of these three devices are: 1. Tommy was acting like a mule, he didn't want play with his friends or goof off, all he cared about was winning. 2. Tommy was a busy bee, running around gathering all the books he could study from and piling next to his navy blue bed. 3. Tommy had never won anything in his entire life. Not a spelling bee, not a game of momopoly, not even a goldfish from the local carnival that came every summer.
1. Simile-Her eyes were her best feature; they were like the color of sea after a storm. 2. Metaphor-The rain drops on the tent were tiny hammers; hitting her temples and making the migraine worse. 3. Personification-The radio’s static whispered to Annabella.
The snow was perfect as if it had fallen yesterday. -simile Without faith is without food in Carter's life. -metaphor His hands were firing hot as if he just stuck them in an oven. -simile
In my story I already have a couple of examples of figurative language. “The respect for the snow covered mountains that glisten from sunrise to sunset and the fresh air from the pines dripping in the brisk spring weather as the world wakes up from a cold long winter would be mutual among the campsite inhabitants.” At the end of this sentence I have the personification of the world “waking” up as the season changes. “Just the thought of a week alone in the center of nature with Phillip made her cheeks as rosy as they would be as her and Phillip thawed out by the campfire after a long day of hiking“ This sentence is simile in which it makes a comparison using like as. I would also like to add a metaphor to my story. I think I good time to do this could be when the kayak my two main characters are in flips over and it begins to move downstream with one of them under it. Thus I would say, “The bottom of the boat was a shell of a long, stretched out turtle making its way downstream with Nancy still under it.”
In my story I used a metephor, hyperbole and simile.Target is a mad house so Joe has to wait for a gazillion people to checkout before he can. In this sentence there is a metaphor and a hyperbole. All of a sudden the target CEO and staff come out of the back room like the police catching a robber and give Mary a case full of one million dollars in cash, since she is the millionth customer. In this sentence there is a simile.
Matthew Albanese My first example of figurative language is a simile:"All of the cars in his way seemed to push him back, like a road-block." My second example of figurative language is a hyperbole: "Nick is furious as he tries to squeeze through the lethargic cars on the road. My third example of figurative language is a metaphor: "He was happy, in the way a clown would be when he is making children laugh."
In my story, one of the similes I will use is Bethany saying I was as happy as a kid waking up on Christmas morning when something unexpected happens. A metaphor I will use is Will’s pool of crystal blue eyes when Bethany is looking into Will’s eyes. A hyperbole I will use in my story is the Ferris wheel was tall enough to touch the clouds, this will be said when Bethany looks up at the ride Will wants to go on with her.
A simile that I plan to add to my story is "Teddy Johnson plays like Magic Johnson, with finese and flash." Magic Johnson was a famous Point Guard who play for the Los Angeles Lakers. He was known for his clutch play and flashy passes. Another simil;e that I plan to add to my story is "Eddie Johnson played just like Michael Jordan, he flew through the air when he dunked and he could always hit a game-winning shot. Michael Jordan was a famous Shooting Guard who played for the Chicago Bulls. He is considered the greatest basketball player of all time and is known for flying through the air when he dunked the ball. One last simile that I plan to add to my story is "Although they looked slow and clumsy, the Johnson twins were very gifted with sprinters speed and they could run as fast as Usain Bolt. Usain Bolt is a famous sprinter who holds the world record for the 100m and 200m dash.
I used personification in my sentence: "The warm spring sun peeked through their branches." I am going to add in a simile in my sentence: "The berries tasted like rain drops with a bit of sweetness." I am gonig to add in a metaphor in my sentence: "The trees that surrounded them were giants form a fantasy book."
personification- The entire time, she had butterflies in her stomach. simile- The decision according to her might as well have been like deciding whether or not to drop a bomb on Russia. metaphor- He was just a ghost of a memory.
Madison Hayes My first figurative language sentence is a metaphor. It is "She stood out, she was a whale in a sea of goldfish, easy to spot, easy to target." The next sentence is a simile. It is "The man ran as fast as a jaguar down the city streets with her purse." And my final sentence was a hyperbole. It was "Her feet were killing her while she ran down the streets."
Simile- The ocean was crystal clear like glass looking down to the bottom of the ocean. Personification- The palm trees furiously swayed back and forth. Hyperbole- Nick has been saving every penny he could since their engagement to make it the best vacation it could be.
Jason Hopkins Their is a simile in my story. The sentence appears like this, "Quick as a bus, John called up his bud, Bob,on his cell phone" This is a simile. This is what I identified in the part of the draft I have right know. I vaguely remember a metaphor, but I don't exactly remember waht it was. I will be more prepared for next class. This is all I got today. Sorry.
In my story, my first figurative language sentence was a similie "Darkness is my ally, just as it is to a bat." My next one was a personification "Wayne woke up to a sun so blinding, it might as well have cut off his eyes" My final one was a metaphor "He isn't a hero, he is a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a dark knight."
Simile: "He felt like a lost dog in the middle of a large bone pile, not knowing where to begin. Metaphor: "It felt as though a blanket of ice was covering the town." Hyperbole: "There were million and millions of baskets. It seemed as though they were everywhere."
The metaphor is: The butterflies in his stomach told full hold of him before the leap. The simile is: The twinkiling lake was as beatuiful was the night sky. I also used personification: Standing on the cliff, the water seemed to mock him with its alluring look.
In my story, I used several examples of figurative language. I used a simile in the sentence, "... the soldier's plod became erratic, much like a man prancing around in a drunken stupor." Though I couldn't find an example of a metaphor in the story, I could a sentence along the lines of, "The man's still body resembled that of a corpse, though he was still very much alive." Finally, I described the thoughts of the soldier by saying, "...the pristine sand and dirt would soon be stained."
My first figurative language is a similie. "Steve was obsessed with death like a lion is obsessed with its prey." My second use of figurative language is a metaphor. "Inside were extraordinary machines and contraptions that would have looked like alien technology during Steve's Presidency." My final use of figurative language is a hyperbole. "After what seemed like monthes of waiting, Steve finally spoke."
The three types of figurative language I used are...
- Hyperbole - "FINE," she said. Becuase she was being sarcastic she put emphasis on the word so that the reader know that she is serious. - Simile - "She roared like a Lion." Becuase she was mad taht her toy got stolen she was like a lion when she screamed. - Hyperbole- " No you may not!" Mom was mad that her daughter cathy wanted to bring her doll to school so she said no with emphasis.
"His heart was a ballon of love that suddenly deflated."-Metaphor "His mind felt like an emotinal roller coaster."- Simile " Suddenly smacked him in the face."-Personification -Isabella Landry
For figurative language, I used a metaphor: "He stared at her contact in his phone, his stomach in knots, debating whether or not to call her." I also used a simile: "The three stuck together, they disembarked the plane, got their luggage, and then proceeded to explore the island looking like fish out of water." The last figurative language I used was a simile: "They changed up, just in case the women thought they had seen them earlier, and headed back about an hour later looking like they belonged on the red carpet.”
In my short story, I included a metaphor, a simile, and a hyperbole as figurative language. My metaphor comes in the sentence "Jawsh runs back towards Mr. McPellin's room faster than a tiger." My simile comes in the sentence "Scrambling for his homework like a madman, Chandon't hears a conversation..." Finally, my hyperbole comes in the sentence "After a seemingly boring and endless class, Jawsh rushes outside..." These are the three examples of figurative language I use throughout my short story.
My story includes hyperbole, a simile, and a metaphor. 1. After what seemed to be eons, they finally arrived. 2. He had the biggest smile on his face, just like a clown at the circus. 3. He was a statue, completely frozen with fear.
One of the examples of figurative language in my story is a simile. I said that "He was as handsome as Tom Brady on the New England Patriots". Another example of figurative language that I have in my story is a metaphor. I said that "He was a bird away from his nest". This is a metaphor because he is not literally a bird; he is just alone, all by himself. The nest example of figurative language is a hyperbole. I said that "He had millions upon millions strands of hair from Mrs. Smith". These are the three examples of figurative speech that I had in my short story.
The three examples of figurative language I used in my short story include a simile, metaphor, and personification. Simile - "Still in disbelief, huh? Guess I am too; seems like just yesterday you were stealing your first candybar," he said with a pleased grin on his face, as if he were flipping through a book of old pictures and memories. Metaphor - One person walked in from all of the light, from his ony means of escape. Though, this was the one person he would have given up everything to avoid. Personification - This plain piece of metal that he could have once laughed at, but once clasped around his wrists it was as if it were its turn to laugh at him instead.
Simile- "They were like a stampede of animals in the wild." Metaphor- "She was so graceful in the water; you couldn't tell the difference between Nicole and a fish." Personification- "It was almost like the pool was inviting me to jump into it."
In my story, I'm going to add some figurative language into my story. Simile: Ria was like a child, excited over little things, always trying to please other people. Metaphor:Jake was a lion among kittens, purely different from anyone else. Hyperbole: This night was from a story book, it couldn't be happening.
My first figurative language that I used was personification because for instance in one of my paragraphs "My horse Famine was the only friend that I ever had. She was friendly and respectful just as a friend should be." Metaphor "They shot her as if she was an animal in the wild."
My story has a simile, a metaphor and a hyperbole. 1) "I was in my mansion, it was one of the newer ones that flew in the sky like a cloud." 2)"He was almost a human." 3)"He filled the empty whole inside of our family with his love."
